About Me - Engineering to Cybersecurity

I'm Marcin—an infrastructure and network engineer transitioning from 7 years of mechanical engineering into cybersecurity and network security roles.

My fascination with technology started early. While other kids played games, I was the one asking "how does this actually work?" That curiosity led me through mechanical engineering, manufacturing optimization, and eventually back to what truly drives me: building and securing infrastructure.

🔍 Why Cybersecurity?

Because it aligns with how I think and work. My CliftonStrengths profile (Individualization, Restorative, Learner, Responsibility, Analytical) reflects what I bring to security work:

  • Problem-solving mindset - If something's broken, I need to understand why and fix it properly
  • Continuous learning - In a field that evolves daily, I'm comfortable being perpetually curious
  • Analytical approach - I break down systems, spot patterns, and dig into root causes
  • Ownership mentality - If I take responsibility for something, it gets done right

These aren't just personality traits—they're how I approach technical work.

🎯 What I'm Building

Rather than just collecting certifications, I'm building practical infrastructure experience:

Homelab Infrastructure
Multi-VLAN network segmentation on MikroTik RouterOS, VPN split-tunneling with policy-based routing, centralized monitoring (Grafana/Prometheus), and documented incident response procedures. All projects on GitHub.

Self-Hosted Infrastructure
Administered VPS with BIND9 DNS (DNSSEC), hardened mail server (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), and this website you're reading—configured, secured, and maintained by me.

Formal Training

  • CompTIA Network+ (December 2025)
  • Sekurak Academy - Poland's premier cybersecurity program (Semester I & II, 2025)
  • Active on HackTheBox, TryHackMe, and technical Discord communities

⚙️ Engineering Background

7 years in manufacturing engineering taught me process optimization, technical documentation, and systems thinking. At FTI Group (Australia), I delivered 175% productivity improvement through knowledge management and structured documentation—skills that translate directly to security operations and infrastructure work.

🧗‍♂️ Outside the Terminal

I've been climbing for 12 years, competing at national level and coaching others. Climbing taught me patience, calculated risk assessment, and mental discipline—all applicable to security work.

I'm also passionate about motorsports. Back in Poland, I trained and competed in amateur enduro rallies. These pursuits keep me balanced and, surprisingly, spark creative problem-solving.

🚀 What's Next

I'm pursuing infrastructure and network security roles where I can apply hands-on technical skills, engineering discipline, and a security-first mindset. My approach: understand systems deeply, document thoroughly, and never stop learning.

Currently open to opportunities in Australia, Poland, or international remote work.
